After an early career in International, US and Australian tours of musicals (A CHORUS LINE, ON THE TOWN, THE PRODUCERS) , and appearing as an extra in the Academy Award winning A BEAUTIFUL MIND, Matt Young made his Australian/Canadian/NZ television debut playing James Cook in CAPTAIN COOK: OBSESSION AND DISCOVERY.
US television audiences will recognise him from Hallmark's A SUMMER TO REMEMBER and PEARL IN PARADISE, TBS's WRECKED, and HBO's Emmy Award winning THE PACIFIC.
Queer film audiences will recongnise him from HEART OF THE MAN, GAYBY BABY, STAGNATE (short film) and LUMBER (short film) which also appears in the compilation THE MALE GAZE: NAUGHTY BOYS.
In Fiji, he can be seen in Caleb Young's AN UNOFFICIAL COLONIAL HISTORY OF THE FEEJEE ISLANDS AKA VITI.
He has been the occasional co-host of the podcast THRASH N TREASURE, "where heavy metal meets musicals", and the host of the storytelling podcast THE STORY CHUNDER.
He is an acting and US dialect coach under the banner of Tukuna Acting Club, which he started in FIji in 2015, and has served as a film choreogrpaher (THE OTHER SIDE OF HEAVEN 2), location casting director (Netflix's #BLACKAF), On Set 2nd AD - Fiji Unit (Paramount +'s THE CASTAWAYS) and national acting trainer for Film Fiji.
He has served as Associate Lecturer in theatre/drama at Central Queensland Unversity's CQCM in Mackay, QLD, where he also directed/choreographed two musicals, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD and SONG CONTEST: THE ALMOST EUROVISION EXPERIENCE.
In 2026, Matt took part in QTouring's Pathfinders bootcamp for emerging producers, based on his experience producing solo shows, playwriting developments and fashion shows. He also attended PAC's APAX (Australian Performing Arts Exchange) and Screenwork's Regional To Global.
He is the founder of Tukuna Acting Club (Fiji and Outback QLD) and the Western Queensland Screen Collective and is a board member of the Vision Spendid Outback Film Festival.
